Declining birth rates are drawing attention to male reproductive health, with infertility receiving overdue interest. Alongside genetic and environmental factors, lifestyle behaviours are a key risk factor. Exploring how lifestyle behaviour links to mental health and its interplay with sexual function and fertility can improve understanding of trends in live births and improve men’s health overall.

While male infertility is finally being acknowledged as a significant health issue, many diagnoses still lack clear, evidence-based connections to their underlying causes.
There is an urgent need to integrate male reproductive health into national health strategies, including pro-natal policies, and emphasises the role of mental health in fertility.
The rising trend of delayed paternity and its associated intergenerational health effects, calls for policies that promote healthier lifestyles to ensure healthy births and populations.
